How to make Kingdom Hearts Sprinkles

Here's a simple tutorial with easy to follow pictures to make your own homemade sprinkles. Add a bit of Kingdom Hearts to your festivities! Use the KH Sprinkle Stencil to create sprinkles shaped as the keyblade, sea salt ice cream, kingdom crown, and paopu fruit.

Use royal icing as it hardens well. I tested it with cookie icing and chocolate, neither held the shape or broke easily. The sprinkles are a little delicate, but sure to handle them with care when creating and decorating.

I'm not a fan of synthetic food coloring and used natural alternatives. If you use powders, use a hand mixer to blend in the powders evenly, if you do it by hand, it might leave unsightly specks. This is what I used:

Natural food coloring:

• Blue - Spirulina Powder
• Green - Pandan Extract or Matcha Green Tea Powder
• Yellow - Tumeric (I did not like this at all; you need to use a lot to get the color, and the icing ended up tasting like turmeric)

KH Sprinkles

You will need:

• Royal Icing
• Food coloring
• Bench Scraper
• Parchment paper

1. I used royal icing mix and added natural food coloring. You can also make your own from scratch. I found that a little under stiff consistency worked best. For this tutorial I added pandan extract for the green color.
   

   

2. Lay out the parchment paper and tape it down if needed. Place the stencil on top. Spread a generous amount of royal icing on top of the stencil to create a thick layer. If it's too hard to spread, add small amounts of water (1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon, depending on how much you're making) at a time until just spreadable.

   

   

3. Use a scraper to smooth out the top. (I made it too thin the first pass, you can see the shapes underneath. The second photo shows my next attempt.)

   

   

4. Gently lift up the stencil from the top tab and pull it up.
5. Repeat as needed.

   

6. Allow the sprinkles to dry for at least 8 hours to overnight.

   

7. Remove the sprinkles by lifting up the parchment paper and gently folding it away as you peel the sprinkles off the paper. Please note, the keyblade is really tricky to remove! I broke all of them in one set; be very gentle and careful.

If your icing is a little wet, the sprinkle surface won't be as smooth when you lift the stencil. Here's two examples where the icing was right consistency, and the other was too wet:

It may take a few tries to get the right consistency or technique down. You can make them in different colors, add more details, or even use the stencils with an airbrush for cookie and cake designs. Have fun decorating! :)
