NEW! Cowgirl Tifa Cosplay Swimsuit
Tifa's cowgirl look has been added to the shop in swimsuit form! This swimsuit is based on the outfit Tifa is seen wearing in Crisis Core and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It's not just for cosplay, this is a full on bathing suit that can be used for swimming and water activities. The material is stretchy, comfortable, and machine washable.
When I first made a cosplay costume of this outfit, I made it into three parts: white top, cropped jacket, and skirt. For a comfortable suitsuit style, I opted to combine the vest and jacket into a top with cowgirl colors and adjustable straps. It needed a more cowgirl touch, therefore an iconic detail of every cowgirl ensemble was added: swishy tassels!
Criss-crosses were added to the bottom sides for adjustability, and to match Tifa's skirt detail. It has a brown waistband to simulate a belt, but to really complete the cowgirl getup, a separate "belt" was added in (removable for convienience). A hat was used for the photoshoot, and while it's not included with the swimsuit, it's fairly easy to find online.
The origins of Tifa's cowgirl outfit were previously unknown and it just appeared in the games. It was finally expanded on in the canon book "Traces of Two Pasts", where it was shown that it was gifted to Tifa from a neighbor, along with other colorful hand-me-down outfits. Tifa chose the infamous vest and matching skirt. She paired it with a wide-brimmed hat and boots from her own wardrobe.
Why the western theme overall? Some say it fits the motif of Nibelheim being a small, rural mountain town in the backcountry. Cloud and Zack bonded over learning they were both "country boys". We also see chocobo ranches and meet ranchers Chocobo Bill and Chocobo Billy. It would also coincide with the late 90's trend of cowboy fashion and aesthetics.
Did you know...?
Another tidbit from the "Traces of Two Pasts": we find that it was the Turks who recommended Tifa to be the mountain guide. Tifa previously had gone up the mountain to search for her cat when she was attacked by monsters. A Turk came to her rescue and told her they were looking for a guide to which Tifa volunteered. Word was passed to the village mayor, and Tifa was selected to lead the group of SOLDIERS up Mount Nibel.
